BRAND DESIGN

EverAfter[brand system]

Refurbished Wedding Apparel
EverAfter is a hypothetical bridal shop that specializes in refurbished vintage gowns. The name EverAfter is a romantic interpretation of the company’s sustainability ethos: a belief that the end of one story can bring the exciting beginning of another. The brand’s design concept is to be dreamy, sensual, and mysterious. It was created with free-form curvaceous shapes, an undulating illustration style, and a jewel-toned colour palette. This strategically highlights the unique qualities of EverAfter in an otherwise fairly homogenous market, while alluding to the integral brand theme of rediscovering hidden treasures.

Same Black Blood[Brand System]

Kara Walker Artist Exhibit
Same Black Blood is a hypothetical exhibit for the mixed-media artist Kara Walker. It’s title represents the complex themes of the racism and violence in US history, entangled with a sense of community and kinship: all themes found in Walker’s body of work. The design challenge was to express these themes and create a system that was complimentary to the exhibit, without outright recreating the artist’s style. Conceptual cues were drawn from Walker’s art to create an animated, heavy and handcrafted design. The type appears carved from solid stone, but is filled with distorted, bleeding, and scratched pen marks to show that the reality of US history is violent and disordered: written in red, white, and blue ink.
